Parks in Southern Utah
Utah
has 45 state parks that are a combination of heritage,
scenic and recreation parks. You can camp, boat, swim,
fish, picnic, visit interpretive areas, golf, hike, bike,
ride off-highway vehicles or just relax with family and
friends. Single day entrance fees in all parks is typically
less than $6 per car, longer passes are as stated below.
Gunlock
Reservoir-Washington County:
In scenic
red rock country, 15 miles northwest of sunny St. George
lies the 240-acre Gunlock Reservoir where year-round boating,
water sports and quality fishing for bass and catfish
attract visitors. Facilities include boat launching ramp
and pit privies.
A five-day
pass is $12 and allows day-use entrance to all Utah ste
parks for five consecutive days.
Quail
Creek Reservoir-Washington County:
Quail Creek
State Park provides excellent year-round camping, picnicking,
boating and fishing in sunny southwest Utah. The park
is three miles east of the Interstate 15 Hurricane exit
on State Route 9. Facilities include 23 campsites, modern
rest room, fish cleaning station and two covered group-use
pavilions.
The Single
Park Permit is $50 and allows the cardholder and up to
seven guest in the same private vehicle day-use entrance
into Quail Creek State Park. The permit is valid for the
current calendar year. The five-day pass is $12 and allows
day-use entrance to all Utah state parks for five consecutive
days.
Snow
Canyon State Park-Washington County:
Red Navajo
sandstone, capped by an overlay of black lava rock, makes
photography, hiking, biking an camping in Snow Canyon
a double treat. The park is 11 miles northwest of St.
George. Facilities include a 35-unit campground, modern
rest rooms, hot showers, electric hookups, sewage disposal
station, a covered group-use pavilion and overflow campground.
The Single
Park Permit is $40 and allows the cardholder and up to
seven guests in the same private vehicle day-use entrance
into Snow Canyon State Park. The permit is valid for the
current calendar year. The five-day pass is $12 and allows
day-use entrance to all Utah state parks for five consecutive
days.
Kodachrome
Basin State Park:
Kodachrome
Basin is a spectacle of massive sandstone chimneys, ever-changing
from gray and white to shades of red with the days
mood. Nearby attractions include Bryce Canyon National
Park, Grosvenor Arch, Paria Canyon, movie sets and ghost
town remains. Opportunities include hiking, biking, photography
and nearby off-highway vehicle riding areas. Kodachrome
is nine miles south of State Route 12 near Cannonville.
Overnight camping facilities, drinking water, modern rest
rooms, hot showers and sewage disposal stations are available.
An area with picnic tables, fire pit, barbeque grills
and electricity is great for group outings. A concessionaire
provides horse rentals and camping supplies. The park
has a resident ranger.
Single Park
permit is $30, the five-day pass is $12.
